Wine Bar ReviewsWe visit a few wine bars each month and write out a little
review to help others see just what they are missing (or not).

Gaffney's
Wine BarGaffney’s is your friendly neighborhood wine bar, where everybody knows your name, ala “Cheers”.
The owners are closed on Sunday and Monday, and sometimes they’ll let patrons run the joint when the owners want
more time off.

The 3rd Corner
The variety in atmosphere provides something for all types. The 3rd Corner has a small bar for conversationalist
and those waiting for their party, but I prefer to wait in the lounge area where you can sit on one of their plush
leather sofas.

Firefly Grill & Wine Bar
Firefly is a restaurant, but they have a good wine selection. I would even say better than many wine stores.
Uniqueness in wine selection is important for me and Firefly provides wines that you may not find in every
store you go to.

3 Wet Corks out of 5
Theme/Niche:
Gaffney’s is your friendly neighborhood wine bar, where everybody knows your name, ala “Cheers”.
The owners are closed on Sunday and Monday, and sometimes they’ll let patrons run the joint when the
owners want more time off. They have the loyalty of their customers to make the wine bar a success
(even while the owners are gone).
Atmosphere:
A mature crowd of patrons come to Gaffney’s. Don’t expect to see bikini-clad girls from the beach
to come by. It’s not that sort of place. You will find the 30-50 something crowds, but it’s a lively bunch.
Robert handles the wine while Donna prepares your light meal fare.
Wine Selection:
Gaffney’s sells wine at retail as well as at the bar. This means there is a good depth to the wine
list. The tasting menu changes weekly and you won’t find these wines in your neighborhood store. The
Gaffney's take regular trips to the Napa and Sonoma and get rich wines from boutique wineries that I
haven’t been able to find at auctions or in local retailers. That’s a big plus.
Food Selection:
The food selection isn’t deep, but it is special. Donna will prepare your tapas or salad with
ingredients you wouldn’t think to put in. Try the Caprese / Mesculin salad with marinated red bell
peppers. You’ll fall in love.
